| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Trajan facing right, with finely rendered hair and characteristic strong profile, set within a beaded border. The imperial effigy is rendered in the Alexandrian provincial style, showing the emperor without drapery. The Greek legend is disposed in two parts around the periphery of the field: ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙΣ ΝΕΡ to the left and ΤΡΑΙΑΝ ΣΕΒ ΓΕΡΜ to the right, abbreviating his full titulature as Autocrator Caesar Nerva Traianus Sebastos Germanicus. |
