| Obverse description | Radiate bust of the Emperor Trajan facing right, draped and cuirassed, with an aegis on the left shoulder; a star appears in the right field. The peripheral Greek legend reads ΑΥΤ ΤΡΑΙΑΝ ΑΡΙ ϹΕΒ ΓΕΡΜ ΔΑΚΙΚ ΠΑΡ, abbreviating his full imperial titulature as Autocrator, Optimus, Augustus, Germanicus, Dacicus, and Parthicus. The portrait is rendered in the vigorous Alexandrian provincial style characteristic of the reign. |
