| Reverse description | Sarapis enthroned left, his right arm extended forward over Cerberus, the three-headed guardian hound of the underworld seated at his feet, while his left hand holds a long sceptre. Nike (Victory) stands facing right atop the back of the throne, holding her characteristic attributes. The regnal year L Β (year 2, corresponding to AD 250-251) is divided across the field. The composition reflects the prominent civic cult of Sarapis in Alexandria, rendered in the characteristic style of Alexandrian tetradrachm reverses. |
