| Obverse description | Laureate, cuirassed bust of the emperor Severus Alexander facing right, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder, rendered in the Alexandrian provincial style. The effigy displays youthful features characteristic of this emperor's portraiture. A Greek imperial legend surrounds the bust, reading Α ΚΑΙ ΜΑ ΑΥΡ ϹΕΥ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟϹ ΕΥ, abbreviating his titulature as Augustus and Caesar. The flan is irregular, typical of Alexandrian tetradrachm coinage of the Severan period. |
