Obverse description Laureate, cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander facing right, rendered in three-quarter front view. The emperor is depicted with youthful features, wearing a laurel wreath and military cuirass. A circular Greek legend surrounds the effigy, reading Α ΚΑΙ ΜΑ(Ρ) ΑΥ(Ρ) ϹΕΥ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟϹ (ΕΥ)(Ϲ), identifying him as Autocrator, Caesar, and Augustus. The portrait style is characteristic of Alexandrian provincial coinage of the Severan period, with relatively fine engraving on a broad flan.
