Beneath the figure, a crocodile is depicted moving to the right, a characteristic Alexandrian reverse type closely associated with the Nile cult and Egyptian iconography. The regnal year legend L Γ (Year 3) appears in the field, dating the coin to the third year of Septimius Severus's reign in the Alexandrian calendar.
