Year 6 of Septimius Severus's reign corresponds to 197–198 AD, the period immediately following his victory over Clodius Albinus at the Battle of Lugdunum — a brutal engagement that reportedly left the streets of Lyon choked with bodies. Severus returned east shortly after, and Alexandria's mint was among the first to resume joint portraiture honoring Julia Domna alongside him, a deliberate signal of dynastic consolidation at a moment when rivals had just been eliminated.
Alexandrian billon tetradrachmas of this regnal year are not rare, but the pairing with Domna's titulature is worth noting — her elevation as Augusta had been carefully managed as political theater from the outset of the reign.
