Obverse description Laureate bust of the emperor Hadrian facing left, with drapery visible on the right shoulder, rendered in the Alexandrian provincial style. The effigy displays the characteristic portrait features of Hadrian with curled hair and beard. The Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The flan is irregular and shows the characteristic broad, thin fabric of Alexandrian tetradrachms.

Reverse description The god Nilus depicted seated left upon a rocky outcrop, his semi-draped figure rendered in a relaxed, reclining posture. In his left hand he holds a tall papyrus reed, while his right arm supports a cornucopia symbolising the river's abundance and fertility. To the right, a Nile crocodile is shown in profile, serving as an attribute identifying the deity with the great river. The regnal date legend L ΚΒ (year 22) occupies the left field.
