The portrait displays Hadrian's characteristic short beard and softly curled hair rendered in the Hellenistic tradition favoured by Alexandrian die-cutters. | 裏面の説明 | The syncretic funerary deity Ptah-Sokar-Osiris represented as a mummiform figure standing facing, with head turned to the right. The deity is enveloped in a tight-fitting mummy shroud decorated with a characteristic lattice or diamond-pattern bandaging, and holds a long sceptre in the right hand. The regnal date legend L ΔΩΔΕΚ(ΑΤ)(ΟΥ), denoting year twelve of Hadrian's reign (127/128 AD), is disposed in the field to either side of the figure. A beaded border frames the composition. |
