Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Hadrian facing right, with drapery visible on the left shoulder. The emperor's portrait is rendered in the characteristic Alexandrian style, with a finely detailed laurel wreath crowning the head. A dotted border (beaded rim) encircles the field. The Greek legend runs around the periphery identifying the emperor as Augustus Caesar Trajanus Hadrianus.

Reverse description The syncretic deity Sarapis, wearing a modius (grain-basket) on his head, is depicted enthroned and seated to the left upon an ornate throne, his right hand extended and his left hand grasping a tall sceptre. The three-headed guardian dog Cerberus is positioned to the lower left, serving as a reference to Sarapis's chthonic associations. The regnal year date L Β (Year 2, corresponding to 117–118 AD) appears in the left field, a hallmark of Alexandrian coinage dating practice.
