Year three of Hadrian's reign marked his first major administrative reorganization of Egypt, consolidating the province's fiscal apparatus after Trajan's costly Parthian campaigns had stretched imperial finances. The Alexandrian mint operated under tight Roman supervision — unlike most provincial bronzes, these silver tetradrachms fed directly into the local monetized economy, their silver content carefully debased relative to the imperial denarius to prevent arbitrage and outflow from the province.
