Year 8 of Hadrian's reign corresponded to a period of intense imperial attention to Egypt — Hadrian himself visited Alexandria in 130 AD, one of the most documented imperial tours of any province. The billon tetradrachm coinage of Alexandria operated entirely outside the Roman imperial mint system, struck under the authority of the prefect of Egypt and deliberately debased to prevent currency export from the province.

Emmett 829.8 places this among the better-documented types of the series. The Dattari collection, assembled in Cairo in the late 19th century, remains the foundational reference for Alexandrian bronzes and billon, and his numbering still anchors dealer and auction catalogues worldwide.
