Aanvullende informatie

Year 2 of Hadrian's reign in Egypt — 117/118 CE — places this coin in the immediate aftermath of Trajan's death and the contested transition of power. Hadrian's accession was announced by the Praetorian prefect Attianus before the Senate had formally acted, and the legality of the succession was disputed enough that four former consuls were executed shortly after. Egyptian dating restarted with the new regnal year regardless, and the Alexandria mint moved quickly to issue coinage under the new name.
