AR24 - Hadrian ΕΤ ΕΝΑΤ

Year nine of Hadrian's reign coincided with his first grand tour of the eastern provinces — a journey that took him through Greece and Asia Minor before reaching Egypt in 130 AD. Alexandria's mint responded to imperial visits with unusual attentiveness, and the regnal year coinage (dated by Egyptian reckoning, ΕΤ ΕΝΑΤ marking year nine) reflects the mint's habit of cycling through an exceptionally wide range of reverse types within a single year, making complete type sets nearly impossible to assemble. The billon tetradrachm fabric of Alexandrian coinage was already debased well before Hadrian's accession.
