| 裏面の説明 | Draped bust of Faustina II facing right, her hair elaborately coiffed and bound, rendered in fine Alexandrian workmanship. The reverse legend ΦΑΥϹΤΙΝΑ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΗ surrounds the bust, identifying her as Augusta, while the regnal date L ΚΒ (Year 22, corresponding to 158-159 AD) appears in the field. The beaded border frames the design in the standard format of Alexandrian provincial coinage. The portrait captures the idealized features characteristic of Faustina II's numismatic representations. |

Year 22 of Antoninus Pius's reign, this Alexandrian billon tetradrachm was struck under the Roman prefect of Egypt, whose mint operated on a closed currency system — Roman coin was officially excluded from circulation in the province, forcing all commerce through locally produced issues like this one. Egypt functioned as a monetary island within the empire for the better part of three centuries.
The Faustina named in the legend is almost certainly Faustina the Younger, daughter of Antoninus and wife of the future Marcus Aurelius, who received her own Alexandrian coinage types well before her father's death in 161 AD.
