| Obverse description | Bare head of Marcus Aurelius, facing right, with short beard, presented in the youthful portrait style typical of his early co-regency coinage. The legend Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ runs around the periphery in Greek characters, identifying him as Caesar. The flan is irregular and the surfaces heavily encrusted, characteristic of Alexandrian billon tetradrachm coinage of this period. |
