The effigy displays the emperor's characteristic full beard and mature physiognomy rendered in the Alexandrian provincial style. The Greek legend encircles the bust, reading from upper right around the field.

Reverse description Draped bust of Hermanubis facing right, the syncretic Greco-Egyptian deity wearing a tall kalathos (grain basket) atop his head, a characteristic attribute combining elements of Hermes and Anubis. A palm branch is depicted in the field before the bust, symbolising victory and divine favour. The regnal year legend L ΚΑ (year 21) is inscribed in the field, corresponding to the 21st year of Antoninus Pius's reign (AD 157–158).
