Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Severus Alexander facing right, seen from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The portrait displays the characteristic youthful features of the emperor rendered in the provincial Alexandrian style. The Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the periphery in a continuous band, partially obscured by the irregular flan edge.

Reverse description The personification of Alexandria stands facing, her head turned to the left, clothed in a chiton and wearing the distinctive elephant-skin headdress that identifies the city as the site of Alexander the Great's burial. In her right hand she holds ears of corn, and in her left a vexillum (military standard); to her left, a palm branch rises in the field. The regnal year date appears in the left field as L ΙΓ (year 13), corresponding to the Alexandrian calendar year 233–234 AD.
