Obverse description Draped bust of Julia Mamaea, mother of Severus Alexander, facing right, wearing a stephane over elaborately waved and coiled hair arranged in the typical Severan court style. The empress is depicted with delicate facial features in the Alexandrian provincial idiom, the drapery rendered in fine folds across the shoulder. A Greek legend surrounds the effigy, reading ΙΟΥ ΜΑΜΑΙΑ ϹΕΒ ΜΗΤΕ ϹΕΒ Κ ϹΤΡ, identifying her as Julia Mamaea, Augusta, Mother of the Augustus and of the Camp.
