The serpent's coils enfold a caduceus and a stalk of grain (corn), emblematic of prosperity and the fertile bounty of the Nile. The date legend L Γ, denoting regnal year 3 of Hadrian (118–119 AD), appears in the field. The reverse type is a hallmark of Alexandrian civic coinage, blending Hellenistic and Egyptian religious iconography. |
