| Beschrijving keerzijde | The goddess Isis Pharia is depicted striding to the right in full figure, her drapery animated by forward movement. In her raised right hand she holds a sistrum, the sacred rattle associated with her cult, while her left hand grasps a billowing sail, emblematic of her patronage of navigation and the sea. This reverse type is among the most celebrated of Alexandrian provincial coinage, evoking the lighthouse of Alexandria and the goddess's role as protectress of sailors. The date legend L Ϛ (regnal year 6) appears in the field, corresponding to the Egyptian calendar year 121–122 AD. |
