| Obverse description | Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian I facing right, depicted from the front with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The imperial effigy is rendered in the characteristic Alexandrian style, with bold relief detailing the laurel wreath and military cuirass. The Greek legend surrounds the bust, reading Α Κ Π ΛΙ ΟΥΑΛΕΡΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥ ΕΥ Ϲ, abbreviating his imperial titulature as Augustus. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, typical of Alexandrian billon tetradrachm production of this period. |
