| Reverse description | Tyche of Alexandria, the tutelary deity of the city, stands facing left in long robes and wearing a turreted crown. She holds a ship's rudder in her lowered right hand and a cornucopia in her raised left arm, symbolising prosperity and the city's maritime dominance. To the left of the figure, the regnal date L Α (year 1) is inscribed in the field, corresponding to the first and only regnal year of the joint emperors Pupienus and Balbinus (AD 238). The reverse field is otherwise plain. |
