Obverse description Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, viewed from the front, rendered in the Alexandrian provincial style. The emperor's youthful effigy is depicted with characteristic short hair and military dress. The encircling Greek legend reads Α Κ Μ ΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥϹ(Ε)(Β), abbreviating his imperial titulature as Augustus and Pius. The flan is irregular and slightly rough, consistent with Alexandrian tetradrachm production of the mid-third century AD.
