| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Antoninus Pius facing right, with traces of drapery visible at the truncation of the neck. The effigy is rendered in typical Alexandrian provincial style, with a wreath of laurel encircling the head. The Greek legend ΑΝΤωΝΙΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ ΕΥϹΕΒ runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor by name and his epithet Eusebes (Pious). The flan is irregular and shows the characteristic fabric of Alexandrian billon tetradrachms of the Antonine period. |
