| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Emperor Antoninus Pius facing right, with curly hair and short beard rendered in the characteristic Alexandrian style. The effigy displays the emperor's mature portrait with individualized facial features typical of his later regnal years. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust, reading ΑΝΤωΝΙΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ ΕΥϹΕΒ, identifying the emperor by his titles Sebastos (Augustus) and Eusebes (Pius). The flan is irregular and shows characteristic surface patination with areas of green encrustation consistent with billon coinage of Roman Egypt. |
