Obverse description Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Aurelian facing right, depicted in three-quarter view from the front. The emperor wears a radiate crown with clearly rendered spikes, a military cuirass, and a paludamentum draped over the left shoulder. The surrounding Greek legend reads ΑΥΤ Κ Λ Δ ΑΥΡΗΛΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ, identifying him as Augustus. The portrait is rendered in the robust, somewhat stylized manner characteristic of Alexandrian tetradrachm coinage of the third century AD.
