Obverse description Bare-shouldered, laureate bust of Emperor Commodus facing right, with short beard and curly hair, rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Cappadocian coinage. The effigy displays a youthful portrait with naturalistic detail in the facial features and hair. The encircling Greek imperial legend runs around the bust within a dotted border. The overall die work reflects the competent but somewhat provincial engraving tradition of the Caesarean mint.
