AR19 - Diocletian ΕΤΟΥϹ Γ

Diocletian's third regnal year in Egypt — the ΕΤΟΥϹ Γ dating — places this piece in the immediate aftermath of his suppression of the usurper Domitianus II and the consolidation of his Egyptian command. The Alexandrian mint had been deeply disrupted by the revolt of Achilleus just a few years prior, and the early tetradrachm output under Diocletian reflects an administration still reasserting fiscal control over the most important grain-producing province in the empire.

Milne 4840 is among the better-documented varieties in the sequence. The billon content by this point was sharply degraded from earlier tetradrachm issues.
