| Obverse description | Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius facing right, with a short beard rendered in fine strands, as befitting his Antonine portraiture. The imperial effigy is depicted in the provincial style characteristic of the Carrhae mint, with the laureate wreath clearly visible above the brow. A Greek legend encircles the bust, reading partially around the rim, with the distinctive feature that all alpha characters are rendered in the form of lambda (Λ). The flan is irregular and slightly broad, consistent with provincial silver coinage of Mesopotamia in the mid-second century AD. |
