| Beschrijving keerzijde | Personification of Armenia seated on the ground to the left, wearing a distinctive tall tiara-style headdress, in a pose of submission or mourning appropriate to the iconography of Roman victory over Armenia during the Parthian War of Lucius Verus. Flanking the figure are a round shield and a military standard, emblems of the Roman military triumph. The reverse legend ΥΠΕΡ ΝΙΚΗϹ ΤΩΝ ΚΥΡ, meaning 'for the victory of the Lords,' is inscribed in retrograde Greek around the field, an unusual engraving convention specific to certain issues of the Carrhae mint. The composition closely parallels the 'Armenia Capta' type widely celebrated across both imperial and provincial coinage of the period 164–169 AD. |
