The composition reflects the Roman imperial victory iconography adapted within a Hellenistic provincial artistic tradition. The surrounding Greek legend reads Η ΝΕΙΚΗ ΡΩΜΑΙΩΝ, meaning 'The Victory of the Romans', a direct reference to the Parthian campaigns of Lucius Verus conducted under the nominal joint rule of Marcus Aurelius.
