Ephesus struck silver for Vespasian in 71 AD as part of a deliberate eastern propaganda push following the Jewish War. The PACI ORB TERR AVG legend — invoking peace brought to the world — was a pointed imperial message: Vespasian and Titus had just destroyed Jerusalem the previous year, and the mint at Ephesus was helping broadcast the official narrative of restored order across the Greek-speaking provinces.
RPC II 1443 is a relatively scarce eastern issue, produced for a short window before Rome consolidated its silver coinage more centrally.
