| Obverse description | Laureate, draped bust of Marcus Aurelius facing right, rendered in the provincial style characteristic of the Carrhae mint. The emperor's effigy displays a radiate laurel wreath and what appears to be paludamentum over the shoulder, though surface wear and possible tooling obscure fine detail. The surrounding Greek legend runs along the border of the flan, which is irregularly shaped and shows the characteristic fabric of a hammered provincial silver issue. The portraiture, while stylistically cruder than Roman metropolitan issues, remains identifiable as Marcus Aurelius through comparison with canonical types of the period 164–169 AD. |
