Obverse description Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator, nimbate with cruciform halo, depicted in frontal view within a beaded inner circle. Christ holds the book of Gospels in his left hand and raises his right hand in blessing; he is robed in imperial Byzantine fashion with visible folds of the pallium. The abbreviated Greek inscription IC XC (Jesus Christ) appears in the field to either side of the nimbus, rendered in characteristic late Palaeologan epigraphic style.
