| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features a stylized crocodile in profile, rendered in the characteristic archaic South Indian hammered style. The main device is surrounded by a double-line border enclosing a Nagari legend distributed around the periphery of the flan. The design elements are bold and somewhat crude in execution, typical of medieval Venad Chera coinage. Pellet ornaments are visible in the field adjacent to the central motif. |

The Venad branch of the Chera dynasty controlled the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent — roughly modern Thiruvananthapuram district — and issued coinage largely independent of the broader Chola commercial networks dominating the region's trade at this time. These small silver kasu circulated in a zone where Arab and Chinese maritime traders were already establishing the pepper and spice routes that would define Kerala's economy for centuries. The Venad Cheras occupied a political margin, but not an economic one.
