Obverse description Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator shown in nimbus cruciger, rendered in the late Byzantine hammered style with bold linear and pellet ornamentation. Christ is depicted wearing imperial-style robes, with the characteristic cross-patterned nimbus visible above. The inscription IC XC (the Greek Christogram for Jesus Christ) appears flanking the bust in the fields. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with late Palaeologan mint production.
