Reverse description Facing bust of Emperor John VIII Palaeologus in imperial loros and crown, depicted with pendilia hanging from the crown, rendered in bold linear style typical of late Byzantine coinage. The emperor's regalia, including the jewelled loros draped over the shoulders, is indicated by pellet and line motifs. An inner beaded border frames the imperial effigy, with a further pellet border running near the coin's edge. The Greek inscription naming the emperor as Despot appears in the fields flanking the bust.
