背面描述 The personification of Providentia, draped, standing left, holding a globe in her extended right hand and an upright scepter in her left hand. The figure is rendered in the classical allegorical tradition common to third-century Roman imperial coinage, symbolizing the emperor's foresight and divine providence over the empire. The reverse legend is distributed across the field in two lines or encircling the central type.

附加信息

Postumus seized power in 260 AD by executing Salninus, the son of Gallienus, and immediately consolidated a breakaway state spanning Gaul, Britannia, and Hispania that would outlast him by nearly a decade. His early coinage reflects deliberate ideological messaging aimed at a western audience that had grown deeply skeptical of central Roman authority following the catastrophic capture of Valerian by Shapur I. PROVIDENTIA — divine foresight — was a pointed claim: that Postumus, not Gallienus, was the emperor capable of securing the future.

The billon content of these antoniniani had already degraded significantly from Severan-era standards, a debasement Postumus inherited rather than initiated.
