Maximianus ruled as co-emperor under Diocletian's Tetrarchic system, and the SALVS AVGG legend — invoking the health and welfare of two Augusti — dates this piece to before the elevation of Constantius and Galerius as Caesars in 293, after which the formula would have required acknowledgment of four rulers. The Antioch mint attribution under RIC V.2 422F places production in the eastern workshops during a period of intense military pressure on the Euphrates frontier.
