The PAXX AVGG reverse type — a deliberate orthographic affectation spelling "PAX" with a double X — appears on issues of the Diocletianic tetrarchic period and reflects the propaganda machinery of the dyarchy before the full four-emperor system solidified. Maximianus ruled as co-Augustus in the West from 286, and the shared "AVGG" legend advertising peace between the two emperors was minted at a moment when Carausius had just declared himself a breakaway emperor in Britain, making the peace proclamation considerably more aspirational than descriptive.
