Obverse description Radiate, cuirassed bust of the usurper Jotapianus facing right, rendered in the provincial Roman style typical of Syrian mint output. The radiate crown, a hallmark of the antoninianus denomination, is clearly visible above the portrait. The cuirass is rendered with modest detail consistent with the irregular craftsmanship of this rare usurper's coinage. The encircling Latin legend runs along the beaded border. The overall portrait style reflects the hurried and improvised nature of this short-lived rebel issue.
