| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Diocletian facing right, the radiate crown with pronounced spikes characteristic of the antoninianus denomination. The emperor's effigy is rendered in the military idiom typical of the Tetrarchic period, with a cuirass visible at the truncation and a paludamentum (military cloak) draped over the left shoulder. The surrounding Latin legend reads IMP DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG, disposed clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The portrait displays the robust, authoritative style associated with late third-century Roman imperial coinage from the Lugdunum mint. |
