The two divine protectors of the Tetrarchs are juxtaposed in a composition emblematic of the Jovian-Herculian ideology of Diocletian and Maximian. The exergue carries the mark XXI (denoting the silver content ratio of 1 part silver to 20 parts alloy), while a Greek numeral officina letter appears in the field. The reverse legend IOV ET HERCV CONSER AVGG encircles the scene within a beaded border. |
