Obverse description Radiate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Diocletian facing right, depicted with short hair and clean-shaven features characteristic of the Tetrarchic portrait style. The emperor wears a radiate crown with pronounced spikes and elaborate segmented armour, with a paludamentum (military cloak) draped over the left shoulder. The obverse legend IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG runs clockwise around the periphery, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The portrait is rendered in the blocky, frontal-tending Tetrarchic aesthetic, departing from the naturalism of earlier imperial coinage. Traces of green patina are visible across the field.
