Obverse description Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Claudius II Gothicus facing right, rendered in a barbarous, schematic style characteristic of unofficial imitative coinage. A degenerate Latin legend surrounds the effigy, the inscription largely illegible and comprised of pseudo-epigraphic or garbled letter forms imitating the imperial titulature. The flan is irregular and slightly chipped, consistent with barbarous radiate production. The engraving is crude, with bold relief and simplified facial features reflecting the work of a non-official celator.
