Antoninianus - Carausius PAX AVG

Carausius seized Britain and northwestern Gaul in 286, declaring himself Augustus and establishing what modern historians call the Britannic Empire — a breakaway state that held out against Rome for nearly a decade. His coinage program was remarkably sophisticated for a usurper, drawing on skilled celators and deliberately evoking the imagery of legitimate imperial authority. RIC V.2 #105 belongs to a mid-reign phase when his mint operations, almost certainly at Londinium and Rotomagus, had stabilized into consistent if sometimes uneven production.

Carausius was assassinated by his finance minister Allectus in 293, ending the dynasty after just seven years.
