Obverse description Right-facing laureate and draped bust of Vaballathus, king of the Palmyrene Empire, rendered in a style blending Roman and Eastern traditions. The portrait displays finely engraved drapery at the shoulder and a laurel wreath crowning the head. The encircling Latin legend reads VABALATHVS VCRIM DR, an abbreviated titulature denoting his Roman-granted honors as Vir Clarissimus Rex Imperator Dux Romanorum. The coin's irregular flan and slightly off-center strike are characteristic of the Antioch mint's output during this turbulent period.
