Obverse description A plain shield occupies the central field, bearing the letter 'S' — the initial of Schwyz — prominently incuse above the shield's upper edge. The design is characteristically crude and irregular, consistent with hammered billon coinage of the Swiss confederate period. The surrounding field is flat and largely unadorned, with no legend or additional devices. The coin exhibits the typical irregular flan shape associated with hand-struck issues of this era.
