Reverse description The reverse displays a deeply recessed dark field with a raised gilt sphere representing the Moon or Earth in the upper left quadrant. The remainder of the field is occupied by a multi-line commemorative inscription in raised lettering describing the details of Goddard's historic 1926 rocket launch. The mintmark 'F' appears at the base.

Reverse lettering MARCH 16, 1926. Robert Goddard launched America's first liquid-fuel rocket at Auburn Massachusetts, a flight which lasted 2½ seconds, flew a distance of 184 feet and reached an altitude of 41 feet.
